Student director Sarah Gregory directed the scene To Whom the Southern Bell Tolls. It focused on a mother and her two sons in the 1960’s south the scene starred Izilda Jorge as Amanda Wingvalley/Mama. Costarring Ryan Campbell as son Lawrence Wingvalley, Kurt Jackson as son Tom Wingvalley , and Julia Paradizova as Ginny potential girlfriend to Lawrence Ginny.
First, the plot of the play can be described as comical and endearing. Mama (Izilda Jorge) believes her son Lawrence (Ryan Campbell) is a hypochondriac. He is constantly finding aliments in himself that the doctors say cant possibly exist. Her other son goes to the movies way to much and doesn’t provide for her the way he should.
Most of all Mama wishes for her sons to be normal. She wishes to marry them off and finally get them out of her hair. She repeatedly tries to set Lawrence up with women, and fails terribly. The only thing hes interested in is glass cocktail stirrers.
Tom Wing valley brings home a girl for Lawrence who works alongside him in the factory. She is a loud and confused girl who has loss of hearing from the heavy machinery she operates. Ginny (Julia Paradizova) is interested in improving her self. Ginny even tries to help Lawrence Gain confidence after he shares with her that his mama calls him retarded.
As a result to all the mayhem on stage we learn Ginny is a lesbian and could not possibly love Lawrence. She breaks one of his swizzle sticks and leaves abruptly. Tom cant take his family any longer and leaves for good. Lawrence and Mama Fight and Lawrence tells mama he named one of his swizzle sticks after her. He therefore breaks it in half showing his affection for her in that large action.
Most noteworthy in the scene was the characters one liners. The audience could not stop laughing. watching such a dysfunction family try to get things together. The costumes were alright and correctly displayed the time era, but weren’t anything spectacular.
The students accents were believable. Also there was never a moment when you couldn’t hear what they were saying. In conclusion, the first scene was a success and I would willing see it performed again.
13 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview

Next to be performed was the scene 13 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview. Directed by student director Julia Paradizova. This scene was based on the struggles of two college interviews who needed to admit one more student to their college. Their only choice of candidates had to be pulled from the dreadful WEIGHT LIST.
Dervens Celestin and Anastasia Francisquini star in this scene as interviewer one and two. Accompanying them are Izilda Jorge, Lexii Turk, Haley Vaughn, Adriana Daniel, Jada Davis, Syed Huzaifa, Ryan Campbell, and Abigail Muccilli as the varying weight listed students.
First of all, you can tell that these students being interviewed are not your average high schoolers. They each have their own unique, but mostly frightening qualities.
The scene flowed well, with each student being interviewed right after the other. If there were any hiccups they were invisible to the audience. The acting was wonderful, and each character was developed in their short interview. The costumes were light an comical, especially when Elizabeth (Haley Vaughn) Came out in a vampire cape. While pretending to be a practicing Vampire in hopes of turning into an actual vampire one day.
In addition there were many other memorable student performances. Lily (Lexii Turk) was a student who told long dramatic stories that made people who were alive ad well seem like they were dead! Kelly (Jada Davis) played an extremely childish student who’s College essay was a picture of a little girl in a pink dress. Because of her Childish ways her recommendation letter is also a picture as well. One of the last students to be interviewed was Ben (Ryan Campbell). He was demanding, and told the interviewer that is he did’t get into this school many lives would be on the balance of life and death. Due to his demanding personality he cuts the power and threatens to punch the interviewer (Dervens Celestin).
14 More Way to Screw Up a College Interview

The last scene performed was 14 more ways to screw up you college interview. Directed by both Julia Paradizova and Sarah Gregory. The following year the same college interviewers must once again find one more student.
This year if they don’t find that extra student they will be blamed for the math department being cut. Staring Dervens Celestin and Anastasia Francisquini the sequel is even funnier then the original scene.
Accompanying them this time are Haley Vaughn, Kurt Jackson, Adriana Daniel, Jada Davis, Ryan Campbell, Julia Cleary, Jason Muller, Elaina Misciagna and Abigail Muccilli. Seems Like this group of weight listed students was even crazier then the first.
A crowd favorite in this scene was the claw ( Ryan Campbell), a student by day and campus hero by night. The entire theater was surprised to find out that The Claw was actually the Dean (Haley Vaughn). The dean Came up with an elaborate scheme to keep an eye in her interviewers throughout the scene.
Another crowd favorite was Santa Claus ( Kurt Jackson). When he came out in the big red suit the audience couldn’t help but have a smile creep onto their face. Before Santa came out Student Abigail Muccilli portrayed a student (Jackie) who was thought to be on the run from the law. It turned out that she wasn’t a fugitive but someone who just liked sitting on the ground.
The entire fall showcase had us laughing from start to finish, and the student performances were outstanding. If you enjoyed the comedic relief of the fall play, be sure to come out and support this years spring musical Gypsy.
